UK Border Agency to Move to Capital Building, Liverpool
The UK Border Agency will soon function out of the Old Hall Street Capital building in Liverpool. The deal has been finalised now for the lease of the top quality grade A commercial space.
When the relocation is complete, UK Border Agency staff will be working out of 218,000 sq ft of shared office space in the heart of the commercial district. About 2000 employees located near Liverpool are expected to be moved to this new location. Currently the office functions from about 6 different locations. This office will handle claims of asylum, ID papers for foreigners, foreigner citizenship in Britain and immigration law.
The lease is being described as one of the largest deals in Liverpool history. With this, the Downing Property Group which invested hugely in enhancing and improving the Capital Building for use by the Border Agency, is hoping to boost the fortunes of Liverpool as a ideal location for businesses. They hoped that this lease will highlight the availability of top quality spaces here for commercial purposes.
The property group has spent £15m in getting the space perfectly aligned to the Border Agency’s requirements. Lifestyle and business facilities have been added to the commercial space to make it attractive to business owners. Chairman George Downing confirmed that about three years of work have gone into creating the perfect office space in the Capital building. He hoped that with this, Downing Property Group can make a positive contribution to boosting property markets here in Liverpool.
UK North West Border Agency Director- Operations, Eddy Montgomery, pointed out that taxpayers will save about ten million pounds per year because of this move. He also said that services are expected to improve even further owing to employees working more closely with each in the same premises.
