Vacationers in Asheville Cabins Have Many Choices in Mountain Made Items to Take Back Home

Often visitors to Western North Carolina, many sampling the mountain atmosphere by staying in Asheville cabins, want to take something back home with them that’s made in the region. If you’re in that group, your biggest challenge is that there’s so much to choose from.

A good place to start is Mountain Made, a unique store located in the Grove Arcade Public Market in downtown Asheville at 1 Page Avenue. As a project of Mountain BizWorks, a local non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurial development in the Western North Carolina Mountains, the store features the work of more than 80 artisans. Their merchandise includes pottery, original paintings, hand-made books, jewelry, textile art, hand-painted silks, gourds, blown and fused glass, stained glass, ironwork furniture, music, and other items. More information is available at 828-350-0307.

One of the city’s newest sources of arts and crafts made in the mountains is the Downtown Market at 45 South French Broad Avenue. This indoor market covers 42,000 square feet and features the booths of area artists and artisans across a wide range of media. It is also a source for local produce and other food visitors can take back to their Asheville cabins. While you’re there you can enjoy treats from the Hi-Fi Coffee Bar and Ali Baba in the food court. For more information, call 828-255-8858.

Not far from the Downtown Market is one of the area’s most popular places for finding the work of local artiststhe River Arts District off of Clingman Avenue. Here you’ll be seeing art where it’s made, in the studios that occupy old warehouses and factories that have been revitalized by the artists. There are 15 studio buildings in all and around 130 working artist studios and galleries. District artists cover many different media and categories including painting, clay, musical instruments, jewelry, metals, silver, textiles, weaving, sculpture, stone, light fixtures, wood turning and much more.

Vacationers who book their Asheville cabins for the second weekend of June or November each year will be able to enjoy the Studio Stroll. On these weekends, River Arts District artists open their studios to the public.

Finally, the city has a vibrant music scene. A quick look at the local arts and entertainment newspaper, Mountain Xpress, will feature articles and concert listings including shows by local original musicians who will have their CDs for sale. Some of the singer-songwriters and local bands to look for include Valorie Miller, Woody Wood, stephaniesid, Dave Desmelik, Jen and The Juice, Aaron LaFalce and hundreds more. Venues to check out include The Grey Eagle, Bobo Gallery and the Emerald Lounge just to name a few. Record stores where you’ll find local music include Karmasonics downtown and Harvest Records in West Asheville.

The bottom line is that visitors to the area who stay in Asheville cabins, or anywhere else in the region, will be able to return home with distinctive creations found only in the Western North Carolina mountains.

The Fear of Change

It is getting increasingly apparent that mates are no longer fancying the aisle in swarms. Individuals just don’t go in for marriage so much any more. It’s a bitwoeful really that this custom seems to be expiring. Aside from those who are religious, a church ceremony doesn’t always appeal. It is more the full-dress, the gifts and the wedding reception ideas that brides look forward to. Of course everyone likes looking into the eyes of their lover and announcing their love for them, but this doesn’t inevitably have to be in the circumstance of a formalised ceremony. People think of marriage as a huge step, an ceasing of something in a way, though it is of course the opening of a new journey too. The fear seems to be that the whole operation of marriage and divorce is a composite and pricey one and therefore shouldn’t be tackled lightly. You have to be serious about marriage in order to have one, and this puts many people off. There is besides a fear of change for some people, who believe that marriage will put an unnecessary strain on the partnership. Others just don’t trust in it, and what it means, opting to just live in with their partner alternatively.

Hurricanes and Poetry Writing

Some of the greatest poet writers off all times have had much adversity in their lives. Perhaps it is this adversity, which helps them see the world differently and makes them take stock of themselves and their surroundings?

They say that when people are threatened with a life-threatening illness that often they begin to appreciate life more and the little things such as the smell of a flower or just simply looking at the stars. It is those times of life that perhaps the greatest poetry of all times has been written.

Many a poet in love will write fantastic poetry. Likewise many people experiencing the ultimate adversity or challenges will come up with some of the greatest artwork in poetry ever written. During the 2005 Atlantic tropical hurricane season we saw regions of the United States of America, which were devastated and destroyed by major category hurricanes and many people lost everything or were forced due to mandatory evacuation to leave the areas where they lived and loved.

If you are considering writing some poetry and are forced to evacuate from your city perhaps this might be a chance for you to do so. After all what else are you going to do while you are stuck in traffic for 15 hours trying to get out of the city or state? You may as well take with you a notepad and a pen and start jotting down your thoughts. Please consider this in 2006.

Kike Face! (Whiplash Poem)

“Kike Face!…”
(Whiplash)

“Let them cook, after that we’ll see…;”
the devils voiced rattledin Europe.

Hysteria bleeds, under the knees of
the Jew… (no truce from the world)

“Tell them to run, we shoot fast
and we don’t miss…!”

Whiplash,
out of the cradle of civilization;
whiplash, from past to present.

Whiplash, from the United Nations;
Whiplash, from the EU and PLO
(hatred replenished)

It is not possible to understand this
primordial packof snakes and rats
(it comes from the devils core).

Hidden under their UN and EU Rugs,
are: conceit, cowardice-greed, race:
wishing to cook a kike, for breakfast.

The cleric says:
death on the installment plan, for the Jew
anti-Semite: reflexes…reflexes: reflections.

When Americans left Europe, so did
restrained anti-Semitism

thus, it starts all over again, the
yanking of the balls of the Jew…

by the EU, and UN; under the heading
‘Thou are not thy friends…’ (extermination)

In essence, America spoiled their fun,
since 1951, and now are refuled…!

#1256 3/2/06

Comments: It seems to me, it is surfacing; old hatred that was once welcomed everywhere, lost its fire after WWII, and now has regained momentum again. Call it repressed hatred of the Jew, or what you will, it is real, and the Europeanist, does not hide the fact it is widespread, and that they have a right to own it. Call it mental derangement, or even madness, it is as it is, excuses for nothing, to hate something. If you examine Europe you cannot escape the reeking smell of this everyday manifestation of dead cockroaches seeping into the sewer system, up through the toilets, and into the houses of the European.
